#CAPSULEreads – Vilija’s TOP 3 books

- Axel Munthe THE STORY OF SAN MICHELE

This book left the deepest impression on me this year. I won’t lie—it took me a while to read it. Each chapter provoked different reactions and emotions. Some pages made me question things, while others were so beautiful that I wanted to share them with those around me. I would even call the ending a literary masterpiece. I soaked up every word and tried to imprint each one in my memory. I truly believe this is a book worth having at home, and whenever you long for pure, sincere beauty, it’s worth picking up again.

- George Orwell 1984

I kept postponing reading this book. Perhaps I just wanted to childishly rebel against the works that seemed to be read by everyone at the time. However, once I set aside my unfounded principles and biases, I had no regrets. The book pulled me in and held my attention until the very last page. Themes such as the struggle against dominant moral norms and opinions, the search for truth—these have always been and will always remain relevant. I am fascinated by their power to awaken the courage and passion within a person to stand up against injustice.

- Danutė Gailienė WHAT THEY DID TO US: LITHUANIA’S LIFE THROUGH THE LENS OF TRAUMA PSYCHOLOGY

I enjoy delving into human psychology and behavior, trying to understand what factors shape a person’s character. That’s exactly why D. Gailienė’s book found its way to me. Considering Lithuania’s historical context and the many trials our nation has endured, this book helps to grasp how deeply collective trauma has imprinted itself into our DNA as Lithuanians and how it influences the lives we build.
